Refusing to Conform

Leviticus 21

John the Baptist came into the world with a mission: to prepare the way for our Lord. Jesus came to do the will of the Father and gave His own life to save us.

As I read and meditate on Leviticus 21, I see God’s call for those who serve Him to conduct themselves with holiness and to be careful not to profane His sanctuary. Today, the sanctuary is not merely a physical place; through our lives, we represent God wherever we go.

A servant of God is called to live as the Levites did—set apart from the values of this world and wholly devoted to God. This separation is not about withdrawing from people but about refusing to conform to the world’s standards. It begins with a sincere desire to please God and to pursue a clean and pure life.

Today, many people take pleasure in serving sin. They lie, steal, pursue money above everything else, harbour hatred, live in addiction, and influence others to follow the same path.

As servants of God, however, we must expect more from ourselves. We are called to reflect God’s character and not to live as those who do not know Him. Our lives should honour the One who has called us.

My takeaways

• A higher standard – I must demand a high standard of moral and spiritual conduct from myself. God calls those who serve Him to live with integrity, purity, and reverence.

• Marriage – God gives clear guidance about choosing a spouse. Faith strengthens a marriage, and a godly marriage helps preserve and strengthen our faith.

• Pursuing holiness – Although only Jesus is perfect, God calls me to continually walk in His presence, allowing Him to shape my character.
